Tough spot for the Blazers here playing an early afternoon game on the east coast. Atlanta has been playing very well of late winning their last 4 (4-0 SU & ATS on their current home stand). Look for the Hawks to continue their run here as they are battling for the fourth seed in the east.

This is a tired, wore out Houston team limping home to play the Spurs who have the luxury of having played their last 4 at home and they were off last night. Meanwhile the Rockets have travelled after 9 of their last 10 games playing 5 home and 5 on the road and have gone 7-3 SU - 6-4 ATS. This is the point that even quality teams like Houston break down and fatigue sets in. Once that happens, the floodgates open as it takes alot of energy to play good defense. We're looking for the Rockets to have to settle for a more up tempo game tonight but they won't be able to keep pace with the rested Spurs looking to avenge a 19 point loss the last time these 2 teams met. The total is set low based on season long stats as these are overall 2 of the best defenses in the league... but not tonight.

Enough already with the streaking Jazz. Tonight it all comes to an end in Atlanta as the Hawks are looking to build on their own 2 game winning streak as they're fresh off a solid win over the Hornets at home Monday night (Top rated winner for us). Atlanta has been home since Friday and haven't played since Monday while Utah has travelled after 7 of their last 8 games (since 2/23). Most recently, Utah crossed over the border to play the Raptors Sunday in an early game (win and cover) then went on to Indiana last night (win and cover) and now they're in Atlanta playing the second of a road back to back. The linemaker correctly made the Hawks the short favorite as odd as it looks.

LA Lakers 102 Houston 96 Winner
This is the time of the year when teams' start preparing for the playoffs and the first thing on Houston's preparation list is to sharpen up the defense. Sometimes the Lakers don't act like they know the meaning of the word and that's what's keeping this number fat tonight. Only problem is LA will be without the services of Lamar Odom (suspension) and of course Kobe will try and pick up the slack but Houston's swarming defense will be all over him making it very tough to operate.

Look for the Hornets' shot to be a bit off tonight as they're coming off of 2 way above average shooting games against Dallas (104-88: 56%) and OKC (108-90: 54%). It is very difficult for any team to continue shooting at such a clip and with New Orleans going on the road to face an Atlanta team looking to get on track after a tough stretch (5-7 SU 6-6 ATS last 12). 9 of those 12 were on the road and Saturday's win over the Piston's started a 7 game home stand.

Nice price here due to the recent results of both teams. Boston is on an 0-4 ATS run while the Cavs are 9-1 SU and 8-2 ATS their last 10. These teams met twice this season and each has won on their home courts, but way back on opening night (10/28) in Boston, the Celtics were a 6 point favorite and in January in Cleveland the Cavs laid 4. We don't see the reason for the 4.5 point swing in the number especially in a nationally televised marquee matchup.

We're backing the Nuggets tonight for many of the same reasons as last night. Suspending Carmelo Anthony for one game is just what needed to happen and just like we said last night, he'll have a big game to show how much he is needed (38 points in last night's 16 point win over Portland). Look for more of the same tonight from the Nuggets' star.
Meanwhile, you'll remember how we though we picked the perfect spot Sunday to go against the Jazz -5 vs Golden State citing that Utah was riding a 7 game win streak and we felt they had peaked. We were wrong as Utah went on to cover their as well 112-104. The next time out the Jazz had Houston on Wednesday night. We stayed off that side but did cash with the under as Utah AGAIN won but failed to cover the 8 (101-94). Utah's streak has now grown to 9 SU and 7-2 ATS. They have had to travel after their last 5 games which will take a toll on any team so to lay 9 to a hungry Denver team with a superstar with something to prove is a tough bet. We're looking for the possible outright win here and feel very safe with the fat 9.

Melo returns tonight after his one game suspension by coach Karl for refusing to come off the court for a sub in Sunday's game against the Pacers. There's been a history of bad blood between Anthony and Karl which looks like a good basis to take Portland here considering the Blazers have won 3 in a row while the Nuggets have dropped 2 straight and their star player and coach don't see eye to eye, but we feel Carmelo will put forth a super effort tonight to send the message of "you see, I told you I should have stayed in the Indiana game", (Denver lost that game 94-100 and also lost Melo's suspension game in Detroit Tuesday 95-100). With that kind of motivation and Portland having played last night in a close battle with Indiana (107-105 Win) and being minus Oden, this could be a rout early.

Utah on a 7 game winning streak (6-1 ATS), but they have peaked and will falter to the fast pace tonight in Golden State. They won't hold the Warriors to under 90 like they did to Sac last night. We were looking to make our move against these Jazz last night laying a boatload of points to Sacramento but just couldn't depend on the Kings to not get blown out (which they almost did). Utah shot 53% last night and held Sac to 44%, yet couldn't put them away: A telltale sign of the inevitable brick wall all teams run into from time to time.

Tonight the Rockets are in Chicago to begin a tough stretch as they play 7 games in 10 days (4 on the road). To be successful in this league teams need to pace themselves so to put forth another big defensive effort here is not likely for Houston, they're better off trading baskets throughout the game and hopefully come away with the win in the end.

We cashed nicely last night going against these Cavs but that was a whole different scenario. Houston was laying waiting for Cleveland and the Cavs were vulnerable to the big bodied defense of the Rockets. Tonight we fully expect Cleveland to bounce back like the 44-12 team that they are. San Antonio has now won 4 in a row SU & ATS while holding their opponents to 84, 76, 67 & 79. It takes extreme defense to hold an NBA team below 80 and the Spurs have now done it in 3 of those 4 so we fully expect the flood gates to open and for LeBron to put on a clinic in this the second of a national TV back to back in Texas. Add to the mix the revenge factor as the last time these teams met was a year ago in Cleveland with the Spurs winning 112-105 and of course 2 years ago Cleveland was swept in the Finals by San Antonio. The Cavs have had 2 years to grow and mature since then so tonight is a statement game and the message is "Move over San Antonio, make room for the new dynasty."

LA has been having their way all opponents since the break going 6-0 SU and 4-2 ATS. This is a bad spot in the schedule for the Lakers as it's their 4th game in 6 nights (3 on the road). They are fresh off a blowout of the Suns at home less than 24 hours ago (132-106) while shooting 57% and now must deal with the altitude of Denver. Meanwhile, the Nuggets have been home and have had an extra day to rest which we feel will be the difference in the end.

What a difference a year makes. This time last year, the Rockets were the road favorite in Cleveland (-1) and came away with the win 93-85. Then earlier this season back in December the Cavs laid 7.5 at home to these Rockets and won 99-90. So now tonight, on national TV, Houston is a 3.5 point dog at home looking to extend their current 5 game winning streak. The Cavs have also won 5 in a row (covering all 5 as well), but that's what's driving this line. 3.5 is a hefty number to cover in a tight game on the road and this is a spot we feel Houston steps up and takes a stand on their home court in a nationally televised game. We also expect both defenses to step up as is usually the case in a playoff atmosphere.
Also note this is the first game of a road trip for the Cavs as they're
off to San Antonio tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Rockets have been playing on their home court for 2 straight weeks.

Bargain created here by overreaction to recent results. When these 2 teams met 2 months ago in NJ, the Nets were -4.5. We feel that is still the correct number and we look for Chicago to be a bit flat here tonight after bowing out Orlando last night while shooting 56% from the field and today having to travel.

We're on the Under here for the same reasons as our Under play last night with these Hornets playing in LA. New Orleans going into last night's game was fresh off a burial of the Magic on Wednesday (117-85) while shooting 58% from the floor. The Hornets' shot wasn't as off as we thought it would be (46%), but they were still only able to score 98 points in regulation. It was a tough beat losing because of OT, just a case of "right side, wrong results."
Tonight we feel the downward shooting trend will continue for New Orleans in Utah tonight as well as the Jazz having their own shooting problems as they too have been shooting way above the norm of late (59% on the 11th vs LAL and 50% vs Memphis on the 17th). They were only able to make 32 of 77 (42%) vs Boston on Thursday (another under winner for us: 95-90) and will have trouble finding the hole again tonight.

We're looking for New Orleans to have a hard time finding the hole tonight after shooting 58% against Orlando on Wednesday and 50% Tuesday at Oklahoma. Teams' shooting usually runs in cycles. LA also off a 50% performance at Golden State (Wed.). 207.5 is a big number to get over if shots aren't falling.

Looking to catch Miami in a transition period here as their 2 new acquisitions from Toronto, Moon & O'Neal, are both expected to start. It's no doubt that this trade will help the Heat, but it takes time to get acclimated and learn a new system. meanwhile, the T-Wolves are one of the most improved teams in the league over the past couple of months and although they're not going to make the post season you can be sure that this young team will be giving it's all over the last 2 months of the season giving themselves something to build on. 9.5 is a nice spot in this situation.

Over 228.5 LA Lakers / Golden State 10:35 ET 2 Units
LA Lakers 129 Golden State 121 Winner
A couple of things working for us here. First is the obvious: Lakers sport the best offense in the league facing the 3rd worst defense in the league. Next is the fact that LA just played Atlanta at home last night holding the Hawks to just 83 points winning 96-83. It takes alot more energy playing defense than offense so tonight, in the 2nd game of a back to back, we look for LA to loosen up on the "D" and accept the running game the Warriors are sure to try and establish. This one should fly over.
